Hungarian goulash, or "gulyás" in Hungarian, go back to the 9th century when Hungarian shepherds, referred to as "gulyás," prepped the dish in big cauldrons over fire. Initially, it was a simple chicken soup, yet as time go on, it grew right into the sturdy, paprika-spiced goulash we understand today.
